Official race information for the 2019 Pyongyang Marathon

On 7th April, 2019, thousands of runners will gather in Pyongyang, DPR Korea to run the 30th Mangyongdae Prize International Marathon, which has over 30 years of long history from 1981.

This marathon is also well known and prestigious for its annual event which is held every April on the occasion of Sun’s Day, the most auspicious holiday of DPR Korea

1. The Organizer

The 30th Mangyongdae Prize International Marathon is organized by DPR Korea Athletics Association (hereunder called “the Organizing Committee”).

The Organizing Committee shall be responsible only for the participation of amateur runners in the 30th Mangyongdae Prize International Marathon.

The amateur runners visiting DPR Korea for tourism or any other purpose are recommended to contact with their travel agencies or host parties for all other issues except for the event participation.

April 7th, 2019 (Sunday)

Kim Il Sung Stadium, Pyongyang, DPR Korea

3. The Race

Events

Full Marathon 42. 195km (Men and Women)
Half Marathon 21. 0975km (Men and Women)
10km (Men and Women)
5km (Men and Women)

Competition Rules

Competition will be held in accordance with the current IAAF Rules, under the guidance of the nominated IAAF Observer

Time Limits, Starting & Closing Time

Time Limits: 4 and half hours
Starting Time: 09:00
Closing Time: 13:30

Route

Kim Il Sung Stadium – Kaeson Street – Ryonghung CrossRoad – Pipha Street – Yongung Street – Puksae Kangan Street – Mansudae Street – Changjon Street – Sungni Street – Pyongyang Grand Theatre – Othan Kangan Street – Mirae Scientists Street –Pothonggang Bridge – Sonnae Bridge – Jolbyok Bridge – Mangyongdae Bridge – Sunhwagang Bridge – Turning Point – return course to Kim Il Sung Stadium.

Start and Finish line

Amateur runners shall run along the same route with the professional runners.

Start and finish lines are inside the Kim Il Sung Stadium.

The Finish line for the amateur runners who run back to the stadium within 4 hours is inside the stadium, but in case of the amateur runners who run over 4 hours, it is outside the stadium.

4. Entrants

Amateur Entrants from East and Southeast Asian Countries

Amateur entrants from East and Southeast Asian countries with the exception of Hong Kong and Singapore are requested to submit their application form for entry and pay their entry fees to the Organizing Committee through the travel agencies or host parties of DPR Korea.

Amateur Entrants from Other Countries

Amateur entrants from all other countries including Hong Kong and Singapore with the exception of the above-mentioned ones are requested to submit their application form for entry and pay their entry fees to the Organizing Committee only through the Koryo Tours. This holds true for all race distances offered.

Foreigners residing in the DPR Korea and Korean Overseas Compatriots

All the foreigners residing in the DPR Korea and Korean overseas compatriots are requested to submit their application form for entry and pay their entry fees to the Organizing Committee through their respective host parties

5. Entry Fees

Full Marathon | Half Marathon | 10km | 5km
$150 USD | $100 USD | $70 USD | $50 USD

Note: The Organizing Committee will provide bibs and chips upon receiving the entry fees.

The Organizing Committee will NOT refund the entry fee if a person, a travel company or a host party cancels his or its entrant’s participation after receiving a bib and a chip.

6. Entry Deadline

Entry Deadline: February 28th, 2019

All the amateur runners willing to take part in the 30th Mangyongdae Prize International Marathon shall submit their application form through the abovementioned travel agencies or host parties before and by the given deadline.

The travel agencies and host parties of DPR Korea and the Koryo Tour shall send the entry forms to the Organizing Committee.

Note: The amateur runners who apply after the deadline are not entitled to run the marathon.

7. Bibs & Chips

*All the participants will be provided bibs and chips through their respective travel agencies and host parties.

*Nobody shall be allowed to participate without proper bibs and chips provided by the Organizing Committee

8. Prize

The Organizing Committee shall award souvenir medals and certificates to the top 3 runners and certificates to all the amateur runner
