Itinerary - US Tour 6 - East Coast Tour

Tues 14th Sep

AM: Bus from office to airport.

PM: Flight JS152 from Beijing to Pyongyang, 13:00 departure, arrive Pyongyang 16:25, meet your Korean guides who will accompany you during your stay. En route to the hotel stop off at the Arch of Triumph - similar to the French version (but bigger) - commemorates the liberation from Japanese rule, the Fountain Park a picturesque area in the centre of Pyongyang (an opportunity to mix with locals), and the Mansudae Grand Monument - statue of DPRK President Kim Il Sung. Check in hotel.

OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Wed 15th Sep

AM: Drive to Wonsan for lunch (4 hrs)

PM: After lunch drive to outer Kumgang and Star Kumgang Lake - a pretty lake in the outskirts of the mountains where it is possible to take an hour’s walk. Tall cliffs on one side, trees on the other, local beach (chance to go swimming or just relax at the seaside), overnight at a guesthouse specialising in hot sludge treatments which are available to visitors, swimming in the lake is possible, fishing also.
OVERNIGHT: Sijung Motel, Lake Sijung

Thurs 16th Sep

AM: Visit to beach at Sijung, swimming if weather permits, drive to Wonsan (1.5 hours), lunch at Songdowon Hotel

PM: Walk in Wonsan city, docks - the moored Mangyongbon-92 passanger chip to Japan is based here and the statue of the President looking over the harbour shows the importance of this port to the DPRK, local park, Chonsam co-operative farm - a persimmon farm which accepts foreign visitors, ideal for those interested in the agricultural system in DPRK, Schoolchildren's Camp
OVERNIGHT: Songdowon Hotel, Wonsan

Fri 17th Sep

AM: Return to Pyongyang via Ulim waterfalls - discovered by KPA soldiers blasting through a valley in 2001 the Ulim (‘echo’) falls area is a peaceful and tranquil place - walk in the area and picnic lunchs

PM: Arrive Pyongyang late afternoon, Museum of Metro Construction - an enormous museum with a great many rooms describing the construction of the Pyongyang Metro, Golden Lane Bowling Centre - where Pyongyangers go for their ten-pin fix, also has some early 90s arcade games

OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

 

Sat 18th Sep

AM: Flight JS151 from Pyongyang to Beijing, 09:00 departure. arrive Beijing 10:00. End of Tour.

VISA FEE: EUR 40 (to be paid at the pre-tour meeting)

PRE-TOUR MEETING: Monday 13th September, 4PM, at our office in Beijing

EXPECTED WEATHER: It will be very warm during the day but cooler in the mornings and evenings, in the early 20s during the day. Good idea to bring layers.

5. entry tickets for Mass Games and special events if applicable – for example Revolutionary Opera if being staged, or a visit to the funfair
6. the lift up the Juche Tower EUR 5
