Itinerary - Spring Exclusive Tour

Thurs 1 July

PM: JS252 flight from Beijing to Pyongyang, meet your Korean guides who will accompany you during your stay. Drive to hotel via Arch of Triumph - similar to the French version (but bigger) - commemorates the liberation from Japanese rule - where you can go to the rarely visited top level. Also pay a visit to the Fountain Park - a picturesque area in the centre of Pyongyang (an opportunity to mix with locals) and the Mansudae Grand Monument - statue of DPRK President Kim Il Sung. Check in hotel.

OVERNIGHT: Potonggang Hotel, Pyongyang

Fri 2nd

AM: Start the day with a visit to the Grand People’s Study House - enormous library/public university building modelled in traditional Korean style over looking Kim Il Sung Square - here you will meet with a local expert, after that walk round Kim Il Sung Square, followed by a tour led by an expert round the Central Art Gallery - the Louvre of Pyongyang showcasing historical and modern works of DPRK art. Lunch in Ok Ryu restaurant, Pyongyang’s most famous restaurant which specialises in cold noodles.

PM: After lunch visit the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum (Korean War Museum) - hear and see the DPRK version of the conflict, then hear a performance and meet the students and teachers at the Pyongyang Conservatoire, after which you'dd drive to the beautiful Mount Myohyang area (2 hrs). Dinner in Hyangsan Hotel revolving restaurant.

Sat 3rd

AM: International Friendship Exhibition - a series of enormous subterranean exhibition rooms housing gifts given to the DPRK’s leaders by foreign political figures, notable figures and organisations, Pohyon Temple - historical Buddhist temple which originates from 1042, but has been rebuilt often since. Lunch in Hyangsan Hotel restaurant.

PM: Return to Pyongyang (2hrs), USS Pueblo - tour the American espionage ship captured in the 1968 and meet one of the sailors who captured the ship, Juche Tower - 150m stone tower with lookout platform at the top and great panoramic views of the city, White Tiger Art Studio - boutique art studio where one can see and purchase oil paintings, watercolours, posters, and even full-body waxworks, dinner in Chongryu Sinsillo Restaurant.
OVERNIGHT: Potonggang Hotel, Pyongyang

Sun 4th

AM: Drive to Nampo, West Sea Barrage - an 8 kilometre barrage constructed for flood-prevention, land-reclamation, and power generation at the mouth of the Taedong river, one of DPRK’s greatest feats of engineering, local orphanage - where parent-less children are raised, return to Pyongyang via Chonsamri Cooperative Farm - where the Chonsamri method (they will explain!) was developed, demonstrates how co-operative farming works in DPRK.

PM: Mangyongdae Native House - birthplace of the DPRK founder Kim Il Sung, Pyongyang Metro - the deepest in the world, take an extended ride on the trains with the locals, Moranbong Park - where locals like to spend their freetime, Department Store. Evening private boat trip down the Taedong River to the Pyongyang suburb of Mangyongdae. Dinner and entertainment on the boat.
OVERNIGHT: Potonggang Hotel, Pyongyang

Mon 5th

AM: Drive to Kaesong (2.5 hrs) - a historical city near the DMZ which avoided being destroyed in the Korean War, visit the Panmunjom/DMZ - boundary between North and South Korea, Kaesong Embroidery Institute - where the finest embroidery in Kaesong is produced. Lunch in ‘Reunification’ restaurant.

PM: Local park and pavilion, Kim Il Sung statue, Tomb of King Kongmin - beautiful twin-domed tomb of the 31st King of the Koryo dynasty and his Mongolian wife, return to Pyongyang (2.5 hrs), Pyongyang Diplomatic Club for dinner.
OVERNIGHT: Potonggang Hotel, Pyongyang

Tues 6th

AM: Flight from Pyongyang – Beijing, 09:00-10:00. End of tour.

TOUR COST: EUR 2390 (please note this tour is limited to 8 places and needs a minimum of 4 to run)

VISA FEE: EUR 30 (to be paid at the pre-tour meeting)

PRE-TOUR MEETING: Wednesday 30th June, 4PM, at our office in Beijing

EXPECTED WEATHER: It will be hot at this time with possible rain showers, around 20-25°C during the day.

TOUR FEE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

all meals on the tour

all entry fees
two guides and a driver per group
all transportation in DPRK

NOT INCLUDED IN THE TOUR FEE:

single room supplement of EUR 50 per night
spending money for drinks and souvenirs
DPRK visa fee EUR 30
tip for the guides (approx EUR 35-40 total)
entry tickets for Mass Games and special events if applicable – for example Revolutionary Opera if being staged, or a visit to the funfair
meals will have complimentary beer but you will have to pay for extra drinks above those provided. If you are vegetarian or have special dietary requirements then please inform us beforehand
