Itinerary - China National Day Tour

Thurs 30th Sep

AM: Bus from office to airport.

PM: Flight JS252 from Beijing to Pyongyang, 14:00 departure, arrive Pyongyang 17:25, meet your Korean guides who will accompany you during your stay. En route to the hotel stop off at the Arch of Triumph - similar to the French version (but bigger) - commemorates the liberation from Japanese rule. the Fountain Parka picturesque area in the centre of Pyongyang (an opportunity to mix with locals), and the Mansudae Grand Monument - statue of DPRK President Kim Il Sung. Check in hotel. MASS GAMES after dinner

OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Fri 1st Oct

AM: Drive to Kaesong (2.5 hrs) - an historical city near the DMZ which avoided being destroyed in the Korean War, visit Panmunjom/DMZ - boundary between North and South Korea, Tomb of King Kongmin - beautiful twin-domed tomb of the 31st King of the Koryo dynasty and his Mongolian wife, Koryo Museum - preserved Confucian museum in the old part of town

PM: Return to Pyongyang (2.5 hrs), Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum (Korean War Museum) - hear and see the DPRK version of the conflict, War Victory Monuments - sculptures of notable events from the war

OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

 

 

Sat 2nd

AM: Grand People’s Study House - enormous library/public university building modelled in traditional Korean style over looking Kim Il Sung Square, Juche Tower - 150m stone tower with lookout platform at the top and great panoramic views of the city, drive to Mount Ryonggak just outside Pyongyang for a picnic lunch

PM: Museum of Metro Construction - an enormous museum with a great many rooms describing the construction of the Pyongyang Metro, USS Pueblo - tour the American espionage ship captured in the 1968, Mangyongdae Native House - birthplace of the DPRK founder Kim Il Sung, Pyongyang Metro - the deepest in the world, take a ride with the locals
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Sun 3rd

AM: Kumsusan Memorial Palace - Mausoleum where President Kim Il Sung lies in state, Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery - bronze busts of the Koreans who died fighting the Japanese occupation, Foreign Languages Bookshop - read up on what you’re seeing here and buy your gifts and night time reading, picnic in local park

PM: Local funfair and Moranbong Park - where the people of Pyongyang go to enjoy their holiday, Monument to Party Foundation - commemorates 50 years of Workers’ Party rule, Golden Lane Bowling Centre - where Pyongyangers go for their ten-pin fix, also has some early 90s arcade games.
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

 

 

Mon 4th

AM: Museum of Korean Revolution - houses exhibits portraying the anti-Japanese struggle from 1905-1945, tour of Pyongyang’s ‘Sports Village’ with various gymnasia, drive to Nampo (45 mins)

PM: West Sea Barrage - an 8 kilometre barrage constructed for flood-prevention, land-reclamation, and power generation at the mouth of the Taedong river, one of DPRK’s greatest feats of engineering, Sea Vessel Repair Shop - working facility where fishing boats and commercial vessels are repaired and maintained, local orphanage - where parent-less children are raised, check-in to hot springs resort - a compound with holiday houses and a main building for dinner and entertainment, spa bath in every room
OVERNIGHT: Hot Springs Resort, Nampo

 

 

Tues 5th

AM: Relaxing at Hot Springs resort, return to Pyongyang via Chonsamri Cooperative Farm - where the Chonsamri method (they will explain!) was developed, demonstrates how co-operative farming works in DPRK

PM: Lunch on boat as it sails from Mangyongdae to Kim Il Sung Square, Schoolchildren’s Palace tour and performance - centre of extra-curricular excellence with study rooms and a breath-taking children’s performance
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

 

Weds 6th

AM: Train from Pyongyang departs at 10:10AM.

PM: Cross border at Sinuiju/Dandong.
OVERNIGHT: On train

 

 

Thurs 7th

AM: Arrive Beijing 08:34AM. End of tour.

TOUR COST: EUR 1590

VISA FEE: CNY 400 (to be paid at the pre-tour meeting)

PRE-TOUR MEETING: Wednesday 29th September, 4PM, at our office in Beijing

EXPECTED WEATHER: It will be very warm during the day but cooler in the mornings and evenings, in the early 20s during the day. Good idea to bring layers.

TOUR FEE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

1. Flight Beijing-Pyongyang, train Pyongyang-Beijing
2. All meals on the tour except on the train out of DPRK – see below
3. Hotel accommodation
4. All entry fees
5. Two guides and a driver per group
6. All transportation in DPRK
   
   

NOT INCLUDED IN THE TOUR FEE:

1. Single room supplement of EUR 40 per night
2. Spending money for drinks and souvenirs
3. DPRK visa fee CNY 400
4. EUR 50 surcharge for the train to Beijing
5. EUR 50 surcharge for the plane to Beijing
6. Tip for the guides (approx EUR 20-25 total)
7. Meals on the train out of DPRK - (bring your own food or eat dinner and lunch in the buffet car approximately EUR 5 per person)
8. Entry tickets for Mass Games and special events if applicable – for example Revolutionary Opera if being staged, or a visit to the funfair
9. The lift up the Juche Tower EUR 5
10. Meals will have a complimentary beer but you will have to pay for extra drinks above those provided. If you are vegetarian or have special dietary requirements then please inform us beforehand
