DPRK art exhibitions

Part of Nick’s extensive DPRK art collection is being shown at the University of Toronto Art Centre – the first exhibition of North Korean art in Canada. It showcases a beautiful collection of woodprints and linocuts – most of which have never been seen before outside the DPRK. You can read more about it here, here, here, and on this blog also.

There is also another art exhibition running in Hawaii at the East-West Center

If you are in the vicinity of either of these exhibitions do go and have a look – the artwork is simply stunning.

Crossing The Line Film

Crossing the Line

Crossing the LineVeryMuchSo Production and Koryo Tours in conjuction with Passion Pictures, BBC4 and ARTE. Dan Gordon (Director/Producer) Nicholas Bonner (Co-Producer). Our most ambitious documentary and the most amazing of stories… if this was fiction it would be unbelievable: CROSSING THE LINE is now available on DVD.

In the 1960’s, four US soldiers serving in the Korean Demilitarised Zone embarked on an extraordinary journey. At the height of the Cold War, this unlikely band of brothers crossed the most heavily fortified area on earth and defected to DPRK. No-one knew why they did it.

For nearly 40 years their life was hidden from the outside world.

Not even the US government knew their fate.

Only one remains in DPRK.

This is his story.

Koryo Tours Film Screening, December 12, 2010 @ DADA, Shanghai

Koryo Tours Film Screening

Crossing the LineCrossing the Line, North Korea Documentary by Koryo Tours

Dada Bar, 115 Xingfu Lu near Fahuazhen Lu and Pingwu Lu, across from Huashan Park, Changming district, Shanghai (Tel: 150-0018-2212 / 150 0018-2208)

Entrance:    Free

Koryo Tours joins Dada in presenting Crossing The Line, the third of three Koryo documentaries about life in the world’s most mysterious country. In 1962, a U.S. soldier sent to guard the peace in South Korea deserted his unit, walked across the most heavily fortified area on earth and defected to the Cold War enemy, the communist state of North Korea. He then simply disappeared from the face of the known world. He became a coveted star of the North Korean propaganda machine, and found fame acting in films, typecast as an evil American. He uses Korean as his daily language. He has three sons from two wives. He has now lived in North Korea twice as long as he has in America. At one time, there were four Americans living in North Korea. Today, just one remains. Now, after 45 years, the story of Comrade Joe, the last American defector in North Korea, is told.

Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) drops restrictions on US tourists

Until recently, American tourists had only been allowed into North Korea during the Mass Games for a maximum 4-night stay. Fortunately in 2010, everything has changed – we can now welcome US citizens on both group and independent tours all year around (we took US citizens on our group tours in February and March, and can confirm these changes are in effect). Check out our complete list of tours and travel options at http://www.koryogroup.com/travel_tours.php and see what’s new!
